Description

The PecsWork project organized by the locally and regionally significant Educators' Center Association aims to develop the district service centers and community initiatives in Pécs and in the agglomeration, and to foster their networking in order to make them able to articulate their goals and needs. Furthermore, the project aims to make these centers meet, and better serve the needs of the district community. The program takes place in partnership with the Oslo-based HIOA, the 3. Sector Foundation and with the cooperation of the Faculty of Economics, University of Pécs. The developmental project relies methodologically on adaptable experiences of HIOA in the area of urban development and in promotion of small communities self-interest. The development - through tracking- will be included in the international non-profit research program of the Faculty of Economics, University of Pécs.This may help the fine-tuning and possible broadening of the program and its methods.

Summary of project results

The PecsWork project was organized by the locally and regionally significant Educators' Center Association aimed to develop the district service centers and community initiatives in Pécs and in the agglomeration, and fostered their networking in order to make them able to articulate their goals and needs. Furthermore, the project aimed to make these centers meet, and better serve the needs of the district community. More than 20 local NGOs and informal groups were involved to the development and tought these more than 1000 inhabitants connected to the project. To the involved NGOs capacity building trainnings and networking occasions were organized, furthermore all involved received continouisly mentoration. During to the project so called "NGO roundtables" were established in five district of Pécs. These NGO groups establishet local NGO centers (called Civil Gates) and taken over the local dictrictwide advocacy and capacity building work from the project promoter after the project. Due to the effective and visible project the local government signed a support contract with these five local NGO centers.

Summary of bilateral results

The bilateral cooperation was based mainly only an advisory work. The Norwegian partner has given advice on urban development, and on channeling local interest in decision making. Concrete tasks of the partners were the organization of a Norvegian study trip, a partner visit to Pécs, professional participation at workshops (online) and granting advice during the project implementation.
