Description

Roma civil organizations are weaker in Hungary while anti-Roma sentiments grown stronger. General problems of Roma communities in housing, education, employment etc. are not improved and bagatelized. Aims: obtaining considerable publicity for news concerning Roma people; to provide more content concerning activities of Roma community; strengthening communities for the representation of communities’ interests. Achievements: strengthened Roma self-consciousness, improved ability to represent interests; the voice of Roma is heard more effectively in press, public discussions and the social media; created strong influence on political and public discussions; major society will have a more objective picture; prejudices decreased towards non-Roma people. Activities: RPC capacity building; Community journalism; Roma communities development; Local media roundtables; Social campaigns. Target group: Roma and non-Roma people. RPC is cooperating with the largest local Roma movement.

Summary of project results

Profile amendment and capacity improvement of the RSK (Romani Press Centre) Improvement of the lobby power, social representation and communications of the local Roma organizations of the "Ide tartozunk! Roma Közösségi Hálózat" (Here we belong! Romani Community Network) The project focused on creation of dominant publicity for news related to the Romani people, provided community development activities. It included a new internet portal of RSK (Romani community journalism) Trainings were held for the central and county groups and members of the ”Ide tartozunk!” network for the improvement of lobbying and social campaigns and mprovement of Romani publicity. It aimed to enhance a healthy Romani consciousness of their voice. The project had a strong effect on social and political communication, and reduced prejudice on behalf of the non Romani people.
