Description

In Hungary lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people and related issues these people face are shrouded in invisibility. The oppression and discrimination this community faces, both on structural and everyday level, can, in part, be traced back to this lack of visibility. The goal of the project is to hold a Coming Out Day event series in Budapest and with help of other organizations in several other cities in order to increase the visibility of the LGBTQ community in Hungary, as well as raise awareness among members of the mainstream society and empower LGBTQ people to come out to their families, friends, and colleagues. Our video campaign, workshops, community events, and pamphlets will spread the message of importance of living a more open life as an LGBTQ person. The project is part of an attempt to create a safe social and political environment in which LGBTQ people can live their lives freely and fully, without pressures of structural and everyday discrimination.

Summary of project results

Not only as a community, but as an active participant, they tried to involve and invite more LMBTQ people to the programs of the Coming Out Day. Within this program, they provided proportinal representation, considering social genders and the residence of the countryside and the capital city of the people. The main target group was the LMBTQ community of Hungary so they interpreted that as a goal and successfully made it, therefore they not only reached the communities of Budapest but more. Making the informational leaflet's tematics, they thought, it is important to reach the supportable people of the community, as family members, friends as well. More, they made a special brochure specialized for oppressed groups in the community, for trans-gender people. The long term goal of Budapest Pride is to integrate trans-issues and trans-gender people to their programs, in this year it was an important step forward, that they could make this brochure in this special topic. They think, it is really important not to change the positive message of the previous year's videos, but they would like to find some new people, to give their faces to the cause. They made it successfully, they found new participants for the shooting from the public actors and from the supportive 'civils' as well, different from previous years. It is quite difficult in a small project to check the esteemed numbers of groups what the projects could actually reach as it was designed.
