Description
The project aims at protecting the environment of the Somogy county village Hedrehely and changing the mentality of its inhabitants’ in relation to environmental issues and community. Through 8 „mini projects” (like forest trips, tree and plant identifying exercises, community waste collection, creative workshops in the spirit of environmental awareness, forest school for students etc.) citizens will learn about their community functions and roles, and will acquire how to draw up their problems and aims as well as to become capable of helping themselves. Participants will also discover project thinking and will exercise various organizational tasks. Some of the mini projects have a special focus dedicated to the 10-14 year-old Roma youth of the village.
Summary of project results
The project aimed at improving the environmental condition of the Somogy county village Hedrehely, raising the environmental awareness and changing the mentality of its inhabitants in relation to community issues. The project was needed due to the declining environmental condition of the village and the passivity of the citizens. Focusing on the 10-14 years old Roma youth 8 mini projects (such as forest trips, community waste collections, creative workshops, forest school and planting trees) have contributed to community building, the impovement of the participants’ organisational and project skills as well as significantly changed their attitude to community life and environmental matters. Both the appearance and environmental conditions of the village have got improved, while people’s trust and engagement in such activities of the association have been restored.
