Description

Pensart’s objective as institution is to promote the introduction of new technologies in the arts and to develop collaborative networks of local, national and international cultural players. The Per/Form-project will stimulate international cooperation to develop new innovative works of art and stimulate their international circulation. Performativity, which is central for the project, explores the spaces in-between, what happens when bodies or objects are left free to perform. Performativity give resistance against a homogenization of the world. It leads to renewal, changes, and expands the potential of things and beings. The objective of the project is to build a bridge between the art programmes of two European art centres: Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo in Madrid and Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein. The work will be coordinated by Pensart. The result of the project will be: - An exhibition of the work of the Spanish artists “Los Torreznos” in Spain and Liechtenstein. - Six performance sessions around three themes: language, objects and body politics. The sessions will be performed in both countries.

Summary of project results

The project Black Box/White Cube has built a bridge between the programmes of two European art centres, Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo from Spain and Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein. Pensart, an Spanish organisation which objective is to promote the introduction of new technologies in the arts and to develop collaborative networks of local, national and international cultural players, has coordinated the work. The partnership has stimulated international cooperation and circulation of art works between art centres with few previous connections. The project brought together artists (amongst them a Norwegian performance artist) from different disciplines and countries to create a series of performances in Liechtenstein and Spain. The result has been an exhibition of the work of the Spanish artists “Los Torreznos” and several performance sessions around three themes: language, objects and body politics. The activities implemented analysed the concept of performance as a way of increasing the level of interaction and influence.

Summary of bilateral results

The two project partners, Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo and Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, has been responsible for the activities taking place in their respective countries. The two art centres have in many aspects a similar philosophy, such as in their firm commitment to contemporaneity and their determination to place the audience at the centre of their work. This has allowed them to organize encounters that has crossed and fused different disciplines. Additionally, the project has explored the possibility to rethink and redefine live arts. The project has contributed to raising the profile of contemporary art and performances in Spain and Liechtenstein. It has offered audiences in these two countries the chance to be introduced to new European artists, and has established a partnership between the two art centres that will hopefully lead to a number of new collaborations in the years to come.
