Summary of project results

The anti-romanism has direct consequences in the wellbeing and day to day life of the Spanish Roma citizens: it affects their health, contributes to the school failure, hinders the access to jobs, keeps a wide sector of the Roma population in true ghettos, supports the bad social image that stigmatises the Roma and their culture in the media and it is in definitive the main cause of the Roma exclusion that most of the population lives. The anti-romanism has a heal, and in order to find it the empathy and solidarity of the society towards the Roma culture should be promoted. At the same time the Roma visibility should grow by their participation in the social and community activities. In this regard, “Romanise you and participate” has been a call for citizen action, a mobilization against racism so the general population can put themselves in the shoes of the Roma, and defend the Human Rights and the equality. An awareness raising campaign, special sessions at schools and universities, and an anti-romanism guide were developed in the project.
