Description

The final product of this research project will be a new range of fabric expansion joints for high temperatures, to be applied on metal cable line and cyclones. These expansion joints could be performed at higher temperatures than those currently available. The durability will be increased and above all, a seal level of C1 will be attained, preventing any leakage. The project will address this through extensive research on new material combinations and testing the resulting of products and analysing the suitability of such combinations. The project will benefit companies involved in metal recycling & incineration wast plants, as well as companies managing metal and steel dust. The project will also benefit cement plant, ceramic plants and any company involved at high temperature production with solid material which will be classified as dangerous dust.

Summary of project results

Project needed was based on an insufficient sealability for nowadays expansion joints in the market place, when temperature, vibration and fluids happen in some kind of industries that need to be in compliance with fugitive emissions regulations. This necessity was focalized in two prototypes and new test rigs to evaluate their design. The principal aim of this project was to develop a new range of textile expansion joints for high temperatures, designed to metal recycling industry and solid wasting incinerator industry whose regulations for fugitive emissions are increasingly restricted. Now we are working in the process of showing these new range of expansion joints to the customer, bringing them onto the market and working in this marketing outcome. These impacts will be reached: Technologic Impact: New range of expansion joints with a much higher temperature resistance (up to 1000ºC), very low emissions and durability under severe conditions, something that doesn´t exist in the current market. Strategic Impact: The new range of this expansion joints commercializing, will provide MONTERO FYE S.A., new products lines researching, working for demanding sectors in market place and reinforce MONTERO FYE S.A. place in the market position. Environmental Impact: The minimum level of fugitive emissions will be reached in metal recycling industry and solid wasting incinerator industry. The outputs delivered have been: Prototypes 1 and 2 were finally designed with successful results, in spite of some difficulties found during the process. New test rigs were developed and designed by us, taking into account the parameters must be evaluated to guarantee meeting the market requirements. New range of expansion joints with higher temperature resistance, durability and high sealability to meet EN 13180 standard was reached. New methods to evaluate expansion joint sealability, temperature resistance and behavior under different mechanical or physical wearing were generated.
