Description

Through the project, TEXDELTA (a geo-textiles manufacturer) aims to create new solutions for the construction, civil works and agriculture sectors that use non-woven fabrics with the goal of enhancing the efficiency of water use in irrigation and reducing the impact of landfills on the environment by using a draining system that separates liquid residues. The project seeks to obtain a new geo-textile mixed with a pipeline system which will be able to work in two ways: i) As an efficient irrigation system, ii) and a liquid residues draining system in landfills. It will be a combination of an absorbent non-woven textile that covers a drilled plastic pipeline, creating mechanism of controlled flow of the liquid - from the inside to the outside (irrigation) and from the outside to the inside (draining). The project is expected to strengthen the position of the company in both the agricultural and construction sectors, offering new solutions and products for customers that allows them to innovate in their work and also reduce the inherent environmental footprint by reducing the waste of water, and introducing a new system of draining liquid residues.

Summary of project results

The project focused on responding to needs in the construction, civil works and agricultural sector. Specifically, the horizontal irrigation installations utilized in agriculture needed to reduce water consumption and use water more efficiently, while also keeping maintenance costs low. Second, in the civil works sector, increased strain on the environment from waste disposal demanded that new systems were put in place to collect liquid residues. Upon completion, the project has developed the following: an irrigation product composed of an impermeable material (the pipeline), which is used as water conduit, and a geotextile (enveloping the pipeline) used as water distributor, through its absorbent properties, making the area where the fabric is, a wet area. The pipeline system in this irrigation system is a so-called perforated pipeline, relying on perforations to feed the textile with the water. The innovative product promotes the use of vertical and horizontal gardens, which offer benefits in terms of energy efficiency, acting as thermal insulators and offering an environment solution to the filtration of liquid waste in areas of garbage accumulation. They are also more attractive to potential customers by offering them new products designed to obtain a more economical and efficient way of irrigation. As for the environmental aspect, the product offers a great advantage, since it allows efficient management and distribution of water in irrigation systems, and on the other hand it avoids the filtration of liquid waste in the land allowing its collection and subsequent treatment.
