Description

The aim of the project is to increase EALS`s (NGO Estonian Historical Ships Society) capacity in dealing with its main activities - preservation of Estonian national maritime heritage and culture. Also, to strengthen its position as a partner to the government/state institutions when discussing the implementation of the National Development Plan of Estonian Maritime Policy. Planned activities include open workshops of traditional sailing and carpentry, mission promoting and other kind of PR-campaigns, strengthening the NGO's membership knowledge and skills in providing everyday services on sailships (including safety trainings) and collecting support and funds. The project involves young people (mostly Russian-speaking) from Ida-Viru County and open sailing days will be organized in cooperation with Open Youth Center of Sillamäe, partner for the project.

Summary of project results

Strengthening EALS´s position in the civil society as a partner in dialogue with government/state institutions.There were and will be in the future discussions and meetings in Estonian Parliament, Ministries. Topics:supporting traditional sailing and shipbuilding ,Estonia`s maritime heritage, improving of financing and legal status. Open workshops in Tartu, Hiiumaa, Muhumaa and Tallinn were carried out. Activities introduced traditional sailing for kids and youngsters, shipbuilding, ship launching. There were ca 1500 participants. Involving Russian-speaking young people from Ida-Virumaa was an important outcome and open sailing days in cooperation with Open Youth Center of Sillamäe were held in order to achieve that goal. There were five trips for 150 youngsters. Another goal - Improving of skills of ship crews. Topics: carpentry, maintaining of sails and rigging; navigation;safety , educational issues. Participants: 70. The main benefit was establishing cooperation between EALS and youth organizations in Ida-Virumaa. The second benefit was a dialogue with state institutions to fulfill purposes of Estonian Maritime Policy in cooperation with civil society.
