Description

People in the whole Czech republic know the Moravian Karst as a place where they can visit famous caves and abysses. This area is also an important storehouse of different species and sites - the challenge is to help to understand the importance of biodiversity using particular examples from the daily life. We want to inspire and let people recognize the importance of all the little steps done by each of us. These steps can be to establish a new apiary, to plant the herbs for the bees anywhere, to help voluntarily the nature or to leed the kids to a sustainable and varied life within the nature. The project outcomes are one -day/long-term educational activities for public and leisure-time teachers, brochures, websites and a wonderful game, which can be modified and than used anywhere. The project is expected to gain 450 participants from the whole country and abroad.

Summary of project results

The environmental education is an essential part of the learning proces not just at school. It should be a part of each ones lifelong learning. Using a wide scale of activities the project enhanced the sence of responsibility to the environment. The objective was especially to motivate people to be active in the environmental protection not just by information providing, but via experience (volunteering, excursions, workshops). We´ve provided 6 different types of events for public, youth, families with small kids and ecopedagogues. There were almost 250 persons involved. The voluntary camps participants helped with the biodiversity conservation in an area more than 80 000m2. They shared their motivation and experience in a blog, which is supposed to remain as a platform for volunteers experience sharing in the future as well. The metodologies created will also help with providing of the similar events in the future and not just in the Moravian Karst. An e-brochure Krajina, příroda, člověk (in Czech), which is also available at the project webpage for free, offers an interresting insight into the landcape development including tips for excursions round the Czech Republic. All the participants have been informed about the importance of the nature protection and care. Some of them have also actively contributed by the voluntary work for especially protected areas in the Moravian Karst. They discovered volunteering as a way of active citizenship this way. The ecopedagogues working with kids and youth in their free time have found new inspiration for their outdoor education passing the weekend educational events.
