Summary of project results
The aim of the project was to reduce regional disparities in representation of natural gardens and quality public green areas, within the meaning of the so-called natural experience sites (Natur-Erlebnis-Raum), in the Liberec Region. Compared to other regions of the Czech Republic this area has low number of certified natural gardens, and there is no public certified natural garden here. The centre of the region Liberec city has many municipal green spaces, whose potential is not fulfil. The project supported the development of 4 municipal green spaces in the sense of creating experiential natural gardens. There are two areas in the Liberec City (primary school garden in ZŠ Náměstí Míru and natural water area near the local housing estate Sídliště Kunratická), and two primary school gardens in rural municipalities. For each of these areas was created an architectural study for natural experience garden which originated through planning with local people (communities). In the case of the Liberec City areas followed also the realization of selected treatments with the involvement of the local community. There was involved more than 600 local people, the architectural studies were done for 20 000 m2 of natural areas, realization of selected treatments was done within a localities of 7 000 m2.The dissemination of the project experience was ensured by final seminar for local people (representatives of local municipalities, NGOs and schools), long-term development of natural garden in the Liberec region is supported by project web pages - Natural gardens in Liberec Region -
http://www.zahrady-vlk.cz/. The project has started the development of natural gardens -natural-experience-sites in 4 municipal areas in Liberec Region. The primary school ZŠ Náměstí Míru Liberec is already in preparation of follow up project to finish the garden according to the new architectural study, the school will try to gain the „open natural garden” certificate in the future (maybe it will be the first one in the Liberec Region). School is also planning to open the garden for other school institutions in region and their educational needs. Rural schools are going to build the garden and they are going to use the architectural study for possible grant proposal. The public natural area in the housing estate Sídliště Kunratická is a good local example of public space which has been changed in the philosophy of natural gardens via planning with the local people.
