Summary of project results

The project was focused on children and young people coming from socially excluded background. Most of the children were of Roma origin and lived in poor conditions. The project aimed to increase their chances for successful education career and therefore perspective jobs and lives. We offered everyday half – day service for the children and their parents with program that strengthened their competences for successful start at school. Our educated teacher taught the children the basic social, cognitive and life competencies. The Preschool club was attended by 12 children throughout the year. We offered free individual tutoring to children at the age of 6 to 18 years. There were 31 students who attended the individual classes held in our Community center. Most of them attended regularly. We created Individual study plans for most of them. The lesson were given by volunteers or the employees of our organization. The six volunteers came from a local high school. There were personal meetings taken in some of schools in to help the students, volunteers and teachers find out what are the student´s individual needs. We also provided so called afternoon leisure time club, which was open to children and young people every day in the Community center. There were always two employees to prepare the program for the children and to talk with them about their problems. We were surprised by the number of children that visited and attended the club. The overall number was 69 people per year, almost a twice more than we expected at the beginning. Lastly, we have organized an educative seminar for local elementary and preschool teachers. The topic of the seminar was “Sociocultural specification of Roma children”. The seminar took place three days was attended by 13 teachers and school managers.
