Description

The project intends to provide support and help for pre-school chidren of Romany origin. It aims to prevent social exclusion and remove its consequences. The project will focus on education as well as preventive measures. Romany children in three pre-school clubs will be provided with abilities necessary for successful start of primary school attendance. We would like to provide the children with knowledge expected of an average first grader and help them avoid special schools. The activities will be implemented in the town of Písek, specifically in the three excluded neighborhoods.

Summary of project results

The project provided support and help for Romany children of nursery/pre-school age. General aim of the project was to prevent social exclusion. The means to achieve this goal was mainly improvement of the children's education. The project goals had been achieved by six different activities intended for the children and their families. These were happening in three pre-school clubs all around Písek town. The project hoped for the children to start their compulsory education much better equipped with knowledge expected from a child of their age. Thus, they would not be forced to enrol to special needs school and there would be no unnecessary delaying of beginning the Year 1 of primary school. Success rate was verified by different criteria, i.e. all the children that took part in the project were enrolled to the regular Year 1 of local primary school. No child in the project was forced to start special needs school and the beginning was not delayed. Total number of children involved reached up to 40. Another part of the project focused on parents of the children attending Naděje's pre-school clubs. Club workers intended to motivate parents and explain to them the importance of pre-school education in particular and education in general. Socially excluded families fully used the capacity of all three pre-school clubs. Naděje's employees also provided support for the families in communication with authorities (institutions, schools). Total number of parents involved reached up to 33. Pre-school children obtained abilities expected of their age and necessary for primary school education, all thanks to the project. Kids were ready for the volume of school knowledge and adapted for the class environment. Children were introduced to the school culture and social environment. Due to this fact, they will be able to finish primary education and possibly continue with secondary.
