The main target group of the programme are children of age 5 - 15 placed in a spare family care. The basic aim and sense of the programme is to support trust in the world. The number of children involved the programme will be 12, the same number of spare families and volunteers.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to verify the methodics of mentoring programmes for the target group of children in foster care. In Prague there has not yet existed a volunteer programme directed at the target group of children from foster care and at the same time organizations which co-operate with these children showed a great interest however could not afford to realize it themselves. This aim has been fulfilled, for its purpose there were created 11 couples (11 volunteers and 11 foster care families) thanks to which the differences between children from socially poor environment and children placed in foster care could have been established and to methodically aim at the differences and approach to a new target group. The project was presented at schools and web pages, three trainings for the volunteers took place, leaflets were printed concerning the project and posters about the project. On the basis of the campaign about 20 children and 35 volunteers entered the programme, 11 were chosen. Methodics of the programme was set up and it takes into account the dissimilarity of the target group of children in a foster care. It concerns mainly the co-operating and children supporting foster parents and ensuing higher demands on volunteers. It showed up that it is necessary to differentiate between the group of so called relatives foster care and professional foster parents (or adoptive parents) and differntiate the approach and selection of families and children also from this point of view. The project had above all a direct impact on children in specific families which got a new relationship, new possibility of fulfilling free time and new patterns mediated by a grown-up friend. In the relation with the volunteer they experience friendship, acceptance and build up a trust in other people. A relationship with the volunteer may help the child to try to orientate himself in the world, help him search his place and give him back the trust in this world and people around him.
