Description

The objective of the project is to improve the position of senior citizens (specifically, 65+ age group) in the field of internet, strengthen their communication abilities and make new social connections through the internet. The project shall make voice of the generation group stronger. The main element of the project is web multiplatform, hybrid of web petition and chat platform. The reciprocal communication should precede the pointed moment, enforcing through the petitionary procedure. Our project’s importance lies in its goal of supporting timeless right to be heard.

Summary of project results

With this project we wanted to empower our target group 65+ in the society. We proceeded from the fact that its voice is heavily under-represented and does not reflect the demographic strength of this population group. We wanted to create a web-based tool (mix of discussion forum, chat platforms and petitions), which facilitates the generation networking and formulation of meanings via internet. We developed this web-based tool and integrated it into our existing portal www.seniorum.cz. Within a short time after the start of Agora the first discussion topics were inserted, those covered a wide range of social problems, or personal interests. We have created the a. m. the platform, mix of discussion forum, chat, and petition and the entire tool was "tapped" on the portal seniorum.cz. In the context of project activity, which aimed to promote this tool, we created a video spot, which was placed on yotube.com, where it attracted 85,000 visitors. The video spot was also aired before the film shows for elderly people during three months (January to March 2016) in the network Aerofilms (Prague, Brno, Hradec Kralove). Our initial assumption of the difficulty of traditional petition and chat tools was one of the key motivations that were decisive for the technological solutions of the project. We wanted also overcome the mistrust to these channels by our target group 65+. The fundamental adaptation of all technical elements (graphics, color, functionality) of the Web Agora to our 65+ target group was for us the crucial point of the entire project. We thought that can improve the use of this tool by our target group 65+.
