Summary of project results

The project reflected the need to strengthen the protection of human rights of migrants and create tools for the elimination of discrimination against migrants and the socio-cultural and language barriers when dealing with public institutions by providing intercultural work and legal advice. The project also aimed to strengthen intercultural understanding and coexistence between the majority society and migrants through awareness-raising activities. Another objective was to strengthen the participation of migrants in civil society by developing the profession of intercultural workers, which is performed mostly by migrants, in cooperation with the Association for Intercultural work. Within each activity, we achieved several outputs: a) counselling and assistance intercultural work services provided to 271 migrants within 816 interventions and 19 public institutions (offices, schools, hospitals). A roundtable on evaluating service provision of intercultural workers by public institutions, migrants and intercultural workers was held and an online database of intercultural workers published on the www.interkulturniprace.cz. b) 8 workshops on intercultural work were organised for 131 persons in total. A methodology was developed for these workshops. c) The profession of intercultural worker has been developed through the national system of qualifications. A round table for social workers, social work students and other professionals was held on specifics of exercise and training in intercultural work. We published recommendations for the development of intercultural work and organised 3 trainings for intercultural workers. The project mainly contributed to the empowerment of migrants and refugees and strengthened the protection of their rights while communicating with Czech public institutions, moreover, it led to strengthening of multicultural environment and cultural openness at the public institutions in Prague and increased intercultural sensitivity and awareness of the general public.
