Description

There is a lack of awareness among landowners of different farming methods. We would like to address landowners, provide them sufficient information and show concrete examples of sustainable management of valuable sites. We want to promote the idea of nature-friendly farming of the intensively cultivated land. By increasing owner’s interests of nature, we hope in improving of their management and their relationship to the landscape. For long term sustainability approach the conservation plans will be developed. We will improve condition of 4 sites due to interventions at locations supporting the biodiversity. The main target group are landowners and public. The outputs are 4 meetings and 2 seminars with landowners, 2 excursions for public, 10 management plans for nature localities, interventions on 4 nature localities. The project has two donor partners – UVR CSOP and Biofokus. Partnership will achieve better knowledge and experience within management plans and meetings with owners.

Summary of project results

Main goal of the project – informed landowners manage the land in a sustainable way supporting biodiversity - was achieved and exceed. We addressed 83 landowners (instead of 30 planned), biological surveys were undertaken and 10 management plans were prepared. Practical land management took place on 24 000 m2 instead of 14 000. In total 6 public excursions took place instead of 4, two publications were printed: Land management in Podblanicko (72 pages instead of 60) and Regional products catalogue – Region of Blaník Knights (1500 pieces printed instead of 1000). All key activities were undertaken and all indicators fullfilled. Target group of landowners – total 83 people was engaged especially through direct meetings and seminars, leading to 15 agreements made. Three new localities joined the Landowners Trust, Dalkovice, Lesáky a Louky u Brodce, engagement was prolonged by 10 years at another 10 localities. Biological state improved more than expected was already confirmed in Na ostrově u Nemíže and Kupsova skála. Main contribution was the establishment of communication between two groups dealing with land management but rarely meeting – landowners and conservationists. The project showed these groups have common interests and can cooperate, leading to increase of biodiversity. Land management in the project also brought evident biodiversity improvements in the localities, showing this cooperation brings results. The change incured by the management exceeded normal management of protected areas financed by other sources. Thorough biological mapping took place in all important localities of the landtrust and 10 management plans were produced. Engagement of Norwegian partner Biofokus was very productive as lichens and mosses previously unrecorder on the localities were discovered. Protection plans are very important not only for the management itself, but help to build trust of the landowners and serve as a basis for further fundraising.

Summary of bilateral results

Our organisation has sent three experts, Anders Thylén, Jon Klepsland and Torbjørn Høitomt to the Czech Republic to undertake field research of present species of lichens and mosses. We were warmly welcomed by the receiving partner and we had a good opportunity to get to know the localities as well as wider nature protection context of their management. Collaboration was coordinated by ms. Petra Kralickova, project coordinator, via emails. In the Czech Republic, we were accompanied by her during the field visits. During the visit of Vlasim in Norway, we had an informal exchange of information and showed them some of our field research areas in Oslo and around the coutry, where land management is under way. At the end of the project, number of administrative documents were requested by the partner. The cooperation was running smoothly and brought some surprising results in identification of rare species of mosses and lichens in the Vlasim region.
