Already for 7 years, the Kauza3 civic group has monitored Prague 3’s city hall so as to present important information objectively. The grant provided will allow Kauza3 to further develop and professionalize its activities so more citizens will be addressed and encouraged to take interest in communal topics; public discourse will be enriched by further topics. The project’s main objective is to strengthen democracy and transparency of Prague 3’s city hall, fight corruption, increase citizen engagement and transfer know-how to other initiatives. Five areas of activities will be pursued: investigation and publishing (10 articles per month); pre-election activities (moderated discussions with Prague 3 mayoral candidates, pre-election calculator); information and communication (website improvement, monthly information booths in public spaces); organization of 4 public debates on current topics; organization of 3 workshops for civic initiatives from other city districts.
Summary of project results
Thanks to the project we were able to acquire new members and thus revived our association. We continuously informed the residents of Prague 3 about important municipal events thanks to the 150 texts and activities ( discussions, info stands, chats, newsletters…). We provided a quality information service for the residents of Prague 3 before the elections. We tried to make municipal politics more attractive after the elections were over. On an ivestigative level we have drawn an attention to several problems of rather small nature, we have also prepared a couple of analytical and summarizing texts. The result of this project is a new Kauza 3 - on the one hand on a personal level and on the other in realized activities and at last on the broader awareness of municipal politics of Prague 3. Our association organized 4 discussions, published 150 texts and 2 printed issues of Kauza 3, created election calculator, prepared pre-election discussion that was attended by 300 people and also went into the streets of Prague 3 to talk with people in total of 12 times. Web access statistics shows a 44,3% increase of unique visitors. We also registered more debaters below the articles and also on facebook. Subjectively we have a feeling that people are in relationship towards city hall more active, for example the municipal counsel is visited by circa 100 onlookers. We also have a feeling that the city hall is not very fond of Kauza 3 and would be glad if it didn´t exist.
