Description

The Krkonoše National Park (sometimes referred to as KRNAP) is the oldest national park in the Czech Republic and is also among the most exposed tourism areas. During just one year, several millions of tourists will visit a relatively small area, which also brings negative effects on the environment. The area is valuable in terms of biodiversity and for this reason it is under the protection of the Krkonoše National Park Administration. The aim of the project is to remind locals, tourists and the public in general why Krkonoše is so valuable. Environmental protection is often misunderstood – the set limits are not meant to harm anyone but rather protect the rare and unique natural treasures. The project will consist of three sub-activities that complement each other. The outputs of each of them will be used for the successful fulfillment of the overall objective of the project - to establish a nationwide environmental campaign on the biodiversity and ecosystem services that Krkonoše offer. The core element is the marketing campaign on the topic of the Krkonoše tundra, which will be strengthened by publication in the mass media, on the Internet and on social networking sites. Professionals will use the project results in a two-day conference. Furthermore, printed publications and promotional items will be prepared for the general public. An important pillar of the project is the maximum use of the information located in the Krkonoše Museum. By digitizing selected items, which at the same time will serve as a background material for publications, the unique collections will be opened to the general public, as they will be posted on the website. To fulfill the set goal a documentation-digitization workplace including the necessary equipment will be established.

Summary of project results

The Krkonoše National Park is the oldest national park in the Czech Republic and is very popular among tourists. During just one year, several millions of tourists will visit a relatively small area, which also brings negative effects on the environment. The area is under the protection of the Krkonoše National Park Administration (Project Promoter). The aim of the project was to remind local residents, tourists and the wider public why the Krkonoše Mountains are such an important piece of Czech nature. The project outputs were reached by realization of three major activities: - digitalisation of exposition of Krkonose Museum (overall, 21 836 inventory numbers of collection items were digitalised; this represents 32,812 digital records); - creation of new publications informing about the importance of the Krkonoše Mountains (Graupar's Map, Enciclopedy of mosses and lichens, Carring for injured animals, etc.) and project activities as digitalisation of exposition of Krkonoše Museum (Treasures of krkonoše Museum), promotional materials such as notepads, school diaries, maps etc. - realization of a public campaign (Tundra in hearth of Europe) focusing on unique arctic-alpine tundra of the Krkonoše Mountains. The informational campain combined various activities such as articles, radio spots, internet presentations and contact campaigns in selected cities in the Czech Republic for more than two months. Campaign within the massmedia such as newspapers were placed several times in two newspapers published across the Czech Republic. The marketing campaign was unique in its size. Positive feedback from the public confirmed that this tool of publicity is a good way to raise the critical issues of protecting the mountains; the publication was the most successful, as the presented topics contributed to the positive perception of the Krkonoše Mountains. Besides the promotional activities, the aim was to remind people why such large specially-protected areas exist. Moreover, the project outputs have been used for environmental education and awareness. The project contributed to a broad awareness of the target groups of the Krkonoše Mountains and its phenomena, for which it was created and which are under the protection of the National Park Administration. Based on the promotional activities with topics adherent with the Krkonoše Mountains, the positive effect on the perception of environmental protection in one of the most valuable sites in the Czech Republic and the related regulation, which is necessary to maintain the state for future generations, occurred.
