Description
The problems which are identified: difficult access to the building of the daily center for children with disabilities “Zornitsa”; due to outdated equipment many children are denied the opportunity of modern treatment and rehabilitation; insufficient activities that help develop the skills of children and promoting their social integration; shortage of trained professionals, esp. in physical therapy, rehabilitation and special education to meet the specific needs of children with celebral palsy; lack of training for parents. The project aims at renovation and equipment for the daily center “Zornitsa”, improvement of the quality of the provided services for children and youth with disabilities; raising awareness of members of the families of children and youth with disabilities; inclusion of family members of the children and youth with disabilities in the activities of the daily center; development of additional labor therapeutic activities for the children; providing access to the building of the center for users with mobility problems. The project will benefit children and youth with disabilities, members of their families, and specialists working with them.
Summary of project results
The results achieved by the implementation of the planned project activities, directly correspond to the objectives of the Programme BG07 "Initiatives for public health". Through the implementation of the activities, Municipality of Blagoevgrad improved the access to all rooms and spaces in Day Centre "Zornitsa" and enhanced the quality of care for youth and children with disabilities. The planned and implemented measures of modernization, such as equipment for a sensory room for tactile stimulation, visual and audio senses; glazed terrace, redeveloped in winter garden; external elevator for accessible environment and installment of a playground for children with special physical needs, improved the living conditions in the center. All of these improvements will provide basic and specialized social services, not only in Blagoevgrad town, but in the whole territory of the municipality. The project benefits some of the most vulnerable groups in the society - children and youth with disabilities. The organized training was focused at a clearer and better understanding of the specific needs of children and youth with disabilities. It was also aimed at learning people how to respond more adequately to the needs of the children. Results, generated by the project, achieved a positive effect on the target group. Through the implementation of project "New horizons for children and youth with disabilities from Daycare Centre "Zornitsa" Blagoevgrad", Municipality of Blagoevgrad succeeded to make Daycare Centre „Zornitsa“ a better place for work and to offer the needed and adequate services to children and youth with disabilities. Also, the Daycare Centre for children with disabilities "Zornitsa" was renovated and modernized. It was improved the professional competence of the staff working in it, the awareness and understanding children’s needs by their family members were raised.
