Description
Because of the lack of trained specialists in the health care institutions on the territory of Burgas Municipality, especially in the area of physical therapy, rehabilitation and special pedagogy, and to a great extend because of the inadequate and old equipment of the medical institutions, many children are devoid of modern treatment and rehabilitation from the very start- on- time diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Construction of specialized centre for rehabilitation and psychological support of children with cerebral palsy, autism and somatic impairments is one of the ways for overcoming the existing problems connected with the access to child health care and will contribute to improvement of the quality of provided health care and the socialization and realization in society of their parents. The project will provide improved quality and access to care for children with cerebral palsy, autism and somatic impairment on the territory of Burgas Municipality; improving the quality of services, through increasing the qualification of specialists; development of new health, therapeutical and rehabilitation programmes and services.
Summary of project results
An Appropriate health infrastructure has been developed in response to the increased needs of children suffering from cerebral palsy, autism and somatic impairment. . The necessary medical equipment was delivered and installed in the Center. The following cabinets were equipped: medical office, manipulation room, hydrotherapy booths, active kinesitherapy room for individual and group activities, healing massage cabinets; ergotherapy room for restoration and training of everyday activities and elements of the basic working habits; cabinet for medical and social activities for work with psychologist, social worker, speech therapist and social pedagogue / resource teacher. Cabins for physiotherapy (electrotherapy) were completely furnished and equipped as well. In order to provide an accessible environment to the indoor pool for rehabilitation, a mobile lift was delivered and installed, which will help children with limited mobility to access the water with the help of an assistant. A registry of children suffering from cerebral palsy, somatic impairment caused by infectious diseases, autism has been elaborated. 2 trainings for medical and non-medical specialists for work with children with cerebral palsy and somatic injuries were organized and held with 26 participants being trained. Two training sessions for parents of children with cerebral palsy, autism and somatic impairment were held with 93 parents being trained. Through the implementation of the planned project activities, access was facilitated to services provided by the center for rehabilitation and psychological support of children with cerebral palsy, autism and somatic impairment and their families on the territory of Burgas Municipality and the risk of social exclusion has been reduced.
