Description

In Targovishte district there is no system of services aimed at implementing specific measures needed to remove all barriers to social inclusion of the people with dementia. As it is now, no measures exist that can ensure the correct interaction between institutions (hospitals, dispensaries, social services). There is a need for alternative services. The main objective of the project is deinstitutionalization and improving the quality of life of people with dementia through alternative forms of social services in the community by Day Center and Protected house. It is expected to develop a model of governance of social services in the community, to support reform of the mental care system in Targovishte, to raise public awareness of the problems of people with dementia. The project will benefit people with mental health problems over 60 years with poor social functioning whose coping is hampered by chronic mental illness (dementia).

Summary of project results

The aim of the project is improvement if the quality of life of people with dementia from the district of Targovishte, through deinstitutionalization and application of social programs for socialization and adaptation in a Day center and Protected Residence. Achieved results: - 1 repaired and equipped building for Day center and Protected residence; - 600 direct and 1200 non-direct users/family, close ones, neighbors. Etc./ of social services Day center and Protected residence of elders with dementia; - 150 trained specialists for providing the services Day center and Protected residence; - 10 Training programs made; - 2 built multidisciplinary teams, for Protected residence and Day center respectively; - 12 clients accommodated in Protected residence and 30 users of the social service Day center; - - 2 built and functioning innovative forms of social services. The build Day center and Protected residence for elders in the village of Makariopol ensure a possibility, for satisfying the needs of people with dementia through soling several important issues: Overcoming the institutionalization; overcoming the social isolation; improving of their communication possibilities and creating conditions of independent living; relieving their access to specialized medical aid; recovery of their dignity and position in society by including of the persons with dementia into a whole psycho rehabilitation process; ensuring possibilities for relatives, close ones and friends of people with dementia to realize their problems , to learn to accept and care for them. Unburdened of the care for close family they will have the possibility to perfect their classification and professional realization.
