Description

Create an effective mechanism, within seven kindergartens, aiming at the socialization and educational integration, preparation for and adaptation to school activity, and increase in motivation to participate in the educational process as regards children aged 3 to 6 years coming from vulnerable groups exposed to the risk of social exclusion and poverty. This includes Roma and / or other groups, through a programme intended for work with children in a multicultural environment, including socio- psychological, educational and creative activities for working with the children, establishing partnerships with families, local communities, civil society and local government structures. The main target group in this project proposal are children from vulnerable groups at risk of social exclusion and poverty, including those of Roma and / or other ethnic group, from seven kindergartens in 5 districts inside the Sofia Municipality: Lulin, Ilinden, "Slatina", "Serdica", "Kremikovci ." The total number of children educated therein is 1095 children, of which: 359 come from socially needy families, incl. of Roma and / or other ethnic group (other than Bulgarian).

Summary of project results

The main target of the project is children from vulnerable groups, exposed to risk of social exclusion and poverty, including children from the Roma community and/or other minority ethnic groups. The lack of social skills needed to communicate with their coeval and teachers and the lack of trust in their own abilities are common for the representatives of this target group. An important objective of this project was to create preconditions for eliminating these unfavorable factors among the the beneficiary children. 7 Clubs of interest have been established aimed at: multidisciplinary activities related to Bulgarian language and literature, sports, arts, music, dancing, etc.35 intercultural events have been conducted wich included: musical performance, exhibition of children’s drawings and crafted works created under the project.160 hours of social and psychological consultations were provided focused on: improvement of children communication skills and their psychological needs; A variouse thematic meetings and individual work were held, in order to attract the family as a partner. An expert group was established in order to support the educational process and the social inclusion of children at risk.Repairs works in four kindergartens executed and technical equipment and materials for have been provided for all 7 kindergartens.8 workshops - 91 pedagogues in total exchanged key competences while the target indicator was 72 pedagogues.Over 1 000 children and parents from vulnerable groups are better acquainted with the cultures and traditions of other ethnic groups.They met a tolerant approach based on the understanding and respect for those who are different. This improved their skills and trust in own abilities and will strengthening their motivation for social inclusion. Parents have been supported for better understanding the children. In long term this would facilitate them for coping with difficult situations and oppositional behavior. 7 Roma mediators worked actively to attract children to school and improve the communication between the pedagogues, the children and the parents. This has a favourable effect on their social inclusion and integration, which will influence positively their opportunities when looking for jobs in the long therm. 91 pedagogues has been improved the skills for work with children in intercultural environment. This allowed the acquisition of specific experience and improvement of the skills for working on social projects.
