Description

The project addresses the challenges faced by parents of children at risk in Madan Municipality, their discrimination, isolation, low education and the lack of training and counselling to support them. The project aims at improving the family environment where children at risk are brought up by training the stakeholders. First, 40 social workers, teachers and parents – volunteers will be trained to identify families/children at risk and support parents for training, job seeking and integration in the society. Second, 120 parents will be trained in groups and individually to change their behaviour and attitudes. Third, a centre to support and advise at-risk families will be opened. Finally, the project outcomes will be presented to the key stakeholders. The project will benefit the parents in at-risk families, the teachers and social workers, the institutions and the local community. The partner will work together with the applicant to detect early support children and families at risk.

Summary of project results

The town of Madan has never had any alliance of people, parents and teachers brought together to protect their rights and propose solutions to their problems to the district and municipal administration. Yet another challenge is discrimination of the parents from the minorities that they are confronted with when they look for jobs. As these challenges needed to be overcome, the project promoter aimed with this project at promoting, adapting, introducing and applying various contemporary models and practices to support the children and families in need in the community. The project implementation raised the motivation and the competence of 40 specialists and social workers as well as volunteers from the towns of Madan, Smolyan and Rudozem to work with children and 120 families at risk living below the poverty line. The results in turn helped raise the quality of social services in the community in the three towns. Viable partnerships were created between local institutions and the NGO sector and the mechanism of cooperation was created. After the project end a group was set up among the Foundation members (parents and resource teachers) to represent the beneficiaries on national and municipal level. The group will continue to help in the area of policy-making solving the problems of children at risk. For more information, visit: www.jivotatehubav.com
