Description
The project addresses the challenges facing NGOs related to conveying their message to the public and the lack of common professional standards for public communication of NGOs. The project aims at setting up common standards, training NGOs and promoting self-regulation of public communication. First, the best practices in Bulgarian and the EU will be studied. Next, an interactive online platform for consultations will be created. Third, professional standards for efficient communication will be drafted, established and accepted by at least 60 NGOs. Next, 90 NGO staff will be trained to use the standards in their public communication. Finally, the trained participants will create at least 50 quality publications complying with the new standards and countering hate speech, discrimination and propaganda in the media. The project will benefit the NGO sector in general, the NGOs and their staff and the media.
Summary of project results
The project addressed the challenges facing NGOs related to conveying their message to the public and the lack of common professional standards for public communication of NGOs. The project activities helped improve communication skills of the representatives of 90 NGOs as they understood better the technique of efficient communication and self-regulation mechanisms were created and adopted. The representatives of the NGOs who took part in the workshops and the online platform developed helped agree with consensus about a code of conduct for communication with the media. In addition, the organization fulfilled its goals related to boosting its capacity. The project outputs include a platform for consultations, a code of conduct and a practical aid.
