Summary of project results

The project addressed the need to change the model of behaviour and relations of the children victims of violence and/or trafficking placed at the Crisis Centre in the village of Balvan with their family and the society. The project aimed at assisting in the socialization and integration of persons with specific needs and providing social support to children who are victims of violence and trafficking. All the stakeholders who took part in the project gained experience with regard to communication between the generations and benefitted from the common points between them such as the fact that Bulgarian traditions bring the family together and help unite communities around common interests. The project included various activities for the children from the crisis centre such as classes in Bulgarian folk dancing, tourism, Bulgarian cuisine, trips in the Bulgarian mountains, visits to some of the top 100 national sites and a photo exhibition. The expected 50% of resocialization and integration of the girls placed in the Crisis Centre during the project were surpassed. All the persons placed at the Crisis Centre at the time of the activities (tourism, dancing, Bulgarian cuisine, etc.) attended and took part in the planned activities. The psychological assessment showed that 88% of the girls achieved progress with their basic behaviour skills and 40% of the children showed positive change and readiness to take part in school and extra-curricular activities. The declaration prepared under the project was proposed to the coordination council, discussed at a round table and submitted to the administration of Veliko Tarnovo Municipality. The declaration proposes measures to ensure the sustainability of the achieved results. The declaration was discussed at the round table in the presence of representatives of the girls from the Crisis Centre, Directorate Social Assistance, Child Protection Directorate, the Children’s Pedagogical Room, the District Administration, NGOs with similar activities, etc.
