Description

The project addresses the need to educate young people in the spirit of human rights, democracy, active involvement in public life. The project aims at raising the awareness of young people in Blagoevgrad District via a movie on the Holocaust with testimonies of some of the survivors and their relatives. First, 7 young people aged 14-29 will make 10 video interviews with some of the Holocaust survivors, their relatives, historians and experts. Second, the interviews will be used as the foundation of a movie on the Holocaust. Finally, the movie will be presented in 8 schools in Blagoevgrad District and in 1 university. Thus at least 480 young people aged 14-29 will be reached. The project will benefit the young people involved, their peers, teachers, school management as well as the local community in general.

Summary of project results

The need for a strong civil society and the education of the young generation in the spirit of humanity and democratic values was the impulse that triggered the current project. The association contributed to instilling democratic values in the young generation to further contribute to a strong future civil society (more than 600 young people were directly reached and influenced). All of them raised their knowledge of the Holocaust, civil rights, the importance of active participation and protection of human rights and all of them shared that they were positively influenced to join more actively various civic initiatives. The project left a deep imprint on the young people who took part in its implementation. All of them shared that they were positively influenced to join more actively various civic initiatives. One of the most important project achievements is the development of an innovative educational film devoted to the saving of the Bulgarian Jews during World War II (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1KTX1R0-Sw) with the active participation of young people which is also accessible, interesting and motivating for the young people. The film was 100% approved by the interviewed young people to whom the film was shown. The main project participants are young people (more than 600); experts, historians, history teachers, reporters, researchers, representatives of the local authorities; the Jewish minority in Bulgaria (more than 10 representatives); representatives of decision-makers, educational establishments, civil servants (more than 5).
