Description

The project addresses the need to boost the organizational and financial sustainability of the applicant to enable the applicant to provide better support for children with special needs. The project aims at boosting the capacity by expanding the applicant’s skills and knowledge and introducing mechanisms for strategic planning and fund raising. First, the applicant’s work and environment will be analyzed and the applicant’s needs identified via 2 focus groups with the team and parents. Then a SWOT analysis and risk analysis will be prepared. Second, the applicant’s development strategy for 2015-2020 will be prepared. Third, efficient mechanisms for fund raising, public relations and cause-related marketing will be developed and tested. Finally, the applicant will exchange good practices about organizational and financial sustainability with other NGOs. The project will benefit the applicant’s team, its clients (children and parents), related NGOs and the local community.

Summary of project results

Over the last five years, Karin Dom Foundation expanded its activity and its team trying to meet better the needs of its beneficiaries. 12 new services and activities were introduced. The users increased by approximately 80%. The training centre for dissemination of good practices was also developed. That is why Karin Dom Foundation had to boost its organizational and financial viability to keep the full range of its activities. The following internal organization documents were drafted under the project: Development Strategy of Karin Dom Foundation 2015-2020 (including a work plan and a fundraising strategy); documents related to the publication of articles by the Foundation team; a communication plan in crises; a communication strategy; a procedure for offers and a financial analysis for the Foundation’s activity. The Foundation’s team were trained for 30 days in the following areas: strategic planning related to fundraising, communications, a communication calendar, online communication and campaigns, non-verbal communication and impact, applying for and implementing projects under the EU Structural Funds, corporate fundraising, work with the media, advertising agencies, volunteers, recruitment of individual and corporate partners, project activity for fundraising. The project team was provided with additional consultations. 17 meetings to develop partnership with donors, the media and companies were held. In addition, the following two campaigns took place to draw public attention to the topic of tolerance and to provoke actions in the social media: - in October 2015, in support of people with cerebral palsy; and - in March 2016 under the motto Invite One More Friend in support of people with Down syndrome. Two videos, leaflets and banners promoting the cause of Karin Dom Foundation were developed to support raising awareness under the project. The project in general had positive impact on the development of Karin Dom Foundation. The Foundation’s team raised its capacity for organizational and financial viability and the efficiency of its fundraising and communication activities. In addition, media coverage was improved and partnership was established with donors and the media supporting Karin Dom’s cause and initiatives. Karin Dom’s experience was shared with other NGOs as well.
