Description

The project addresses the need to fight aggression among the young Roma in the village of Lopyan, Etropole. The project aims at supporting the integration of young Roma in the society through Judo classes. First, the members of marginalized communities will be identified and offered an alternative for their spare time. Second, the premises for a Judo and Unifight training centre will be selected and equipped. Third, the young Roma will have Judo classes at the centre preceded by discussion of issues related to their social and personal development. Next, the project and its outcome will be promoted among the local community. Finally, the young Roma will take part in several demonstrations to show what they learned at the centre. The project will benefit the young Roma involved, their families and the whole Roma and Bulgarian community in the village of Lopyan in general.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the need to fight aggression among the young Roma in the village of Lopyan, Etropole. Its goal was to increase the opportunities for future employment, career and active social inclusion of 45 young people including from Roma background from the village of Lopyan, Etropole Municipality. The project activities included development and maintenance of sports facilities in the village of Lopyan, sport competitions, lectures on issues to do with anger management and tolerance, training of coaches and competitors from the target group. The project was covered by the local press and thus a positive tradition and practice was established to work with young Roma from the village of Lopyan and the region. The sports facilities will continue to be extensively used after the project end in order to integrate and help young Roma develop. 10 donors, 20 volunteers, the local community and NGOs took part in the project implementation.
