Description

The project addresses the need for more physical exercise for people with diabetes, osteoporosis and metabolic syndrome in the village of Krepost, Haskovo District. The project aims at improving their health condition and the quality of their life by engaging them in more physical exercise. First, the premises for a gym and a club for such people will be prepared. The gym will be repaired and equipped with the necessary equipment. Second, people with the 3 health conditions will have physical exercise at the gym 3 times per week. In addition, 10 countryside trips will be organized for them and 2 trips to Perperikon and Bachkovo Monastery. Finally, public events and lectures on diabetes, osteoporosis and metabolic syndrome will be organized for them at the club. The project will benefit 125 people suffering from diabetes, osteoporosis and metabolic syndrome in the village of Krepost, their families and the local community in general.

Summary of project results

The main goal of the project was to improve the quality of life of 125 people with diabetes, metabolic syndrome and osteoporosis by improving their physical and health condition in the village of Krepost, Haskovo District. Thus a club for physical exercise and rehabilitation was set up. The training courses helped the people concerned and their relatives raise their awareness about the disease. They learned how to respond to acute complications. They became aware of the importance of prevention and regular check-ups. Boosting their knowledge of meal plans, stress reduction and time management also contributed to a change in their habits and behavior. However, awareness of the need of physical exercise had the strongest impact. The club helped these people become more united, share their problems and concerns. Their self-confidence rose. The project sustainability will be based on the fact that the target group has acquired useful habits that the people will keep throughout their lives. The facility renovated under the project will be further used. The target group included 125 people diabetes, metabolic syndrome and osteoporosis and their relatives.
