Description

The project addresses the need for greater civic engagement to protect children’s rights. The project aims at achieving broader public engagement with the right of children to a family through setting up a platform for cooperation between the stakeholders. First, the needs of the stakeholders (local NGOs, the business, the media, citizens) in the cities of Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv, Montana and Varna will be assessed. Civic engagement with the causes of local NGOs and the existing mechanisms of cooperation between the stakeholders will be studied. Second, 2-day round tables will be held in the 4 cities and a final conference will be held in Sofia to set up a platform of cooperation between the stakeholders. Third, an awareness-raising campaign focused on children’s rights will be carried out in the 4 cities. Finally, a practical guide on successful partnerships will be prepared. The project will benefit children and young people, the public, local NGOs, the business and the media.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the need for greater civic engagement to protect children’s rights. The main project outcome was the motivation of the representatives of the stakeholders (local NGOs, the business, the media, citizens) in the cities of Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv, Montana and Varna to get involved with the causes of NGOs working for children’s wellbeing and children’s right to a family. The questionnaires, focus groups, direct conversations with the representatives of the stakeholders, thematic discussions, round tables, happenings and the national conference helped involve the representatives of local and national authorities, the media, businesses, NGOs, citizens, children and young people. They took part not only in setting the focus and planning the activities in each region but also in the planning of national initiatives ensuring sustainability of dialogue and cooperation which started under the project. The project implementation contributed to drawing public interest towards the topic of children’s wellbeing and respect of the child’s right to a family during the round tables held in four regions (Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv, Montana and Varna) as well as during the national conference. The project contributed to setting and improving the cooperation mechanisms between all stakeholders to ensure the child’s right to live in a family environment as well as to improve confidence in civil society organizations and promote civic involvement in the NGO causes.
