Description

The project addresses the need for greater involvement of young people in volunteering in Bulgaria. The project aims at promoting volunteering by setting up volunteer’s clubs in schools and universities. First, informal volunteer’s clubs will be set up in 6 universities and 10 high schools in 6 cities (Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Blagoevgrad, Veliko Tarnovo). Second, NGOs with relevant causes will be identified, attracted and young volunteers will be involved in supporting them. Third, the Teams section will be created on TimeHeroes.org. Voluteer’s clubs will be able to compete as teams, score points, win awards, be ranked and volunteering will be bound with gamification. Fourth, volunteer’s certificates will be awarded by the relevant club and TimeHeroes. Finally, an online campaign to promote youth volunteering will be held. The project will benefit young people in Bulgaria as well as NGOs, informal groups working with minorities, children, the elderly and the disabled.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the need for greater involvement of young people in volunteering in Bulgaria. The project activities helped set up and develop 18 informal volunteer clubs in educational institutions in the country made up of about 250 volunteers. The Teams section on the website of timeheroes.org (43 teams) was added; the platform reported the following results: 243 new organizers of missions, 405 new causes, 13 429 new volunteers and 22 300 times people joined NGO causes. The clubs set up under the project helped create conditions for many adolescents to learn more about volunteering and take part in various activities. In addition, many of the school students launched projects to improve the school environment following the volunteer club sessions when they asked themselves about what they would change in the surrounding environment and what was important for them that.
