Description

The project addresses the need for greater civic engagement among young Bulgarians. The project aims at promoting active citizenship through volunteering. First, Volunteer’s Day will be held at 119th High School in Sofia to present the philosophy of volunteering to students. Second, 25 students aged 14-18 will be selected to take part in the 2-day Mission Volunteer workshop. Third, meeting with the other stakeholders (parents, teachers, advisers) will be held to involve them in the project. Next, an information network will be set up in the social media to enable students to get, share and update information about volunteering. Next, a photo competition titled “My day as a volunteer” will be held. Finally, a seminar on youth volunteering will be held with the participation of all the stakeholders. The project will benefit the students, parents, teachers in the relevant high school as well as the public in general. The partner will be actively involved with its premises and expertise.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the need for greater civic engagement among young Bulgarians. The project promoted active citizenship through volunteering and enabled young people from secondary schools in Sofia City to learn more about their rights as EU citizens, to acquire new skills and disseminated knowledge among their peers through voluntary work. As a result of the project 25 pupils were trained, a photo competition entitled My Day as an Volunteer was held and a Youth Volunteering Information Network was set up to continue functioning after the project end. The project partner was actively involved in the project. Some of the teachers of the project partner were actively involved in the implementation of some activities and acted as a bridge between the pupils who took part in the project and their parents.
