Description
The project addresses the need for young people to be more actively involved in the public life. The project aims at making them more active citizens by raising their awareness with the help of a training programme on democratic values. First, the programme on promotion of democratic values through drama and theatre techniques will be developed. Second, 50 teachers from 16 Sofia high schools will pass a 5-day training to apply the drama techniques. Third, the programme will be tested at the relevant 16 schools. 3 testing classes will be carried out at each school. The programme will be finalized and presented at a national conference. The project will benefit 1200 students, their teachers in 16 schools, the school staff involved as well as the education system and the public in general. The project partner will help with the organization of project publicity as well as ensure the sustainability of the project outcome.
Summary of project results
The project addressed the need for young people to be more actively involved in the public life. The project aimed at making them more active citizens by raising their awareness with the help of a training programme on democratic values. The project also aimed at contributing to reduction of racism, xenophobia, hate speech and intolerance in the society through the promotion and protection of fundamental human rights. 48 teachers from 20 schools and 2 teachers from NGOs had their teaching methodology extended under the project with efficient art and drama techniques for teaching the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The programme for teaching the Convention had been tested on about 800 students from 20 schools. The sustainability of the project results will be ensured with the protection of the new Education Act which provides for greater opportunities for involvement of NGOs in the education process which, given the already developed trust and willingness for cooperation, will enable further development of the process.
