Description

The project addresses the need to raise the awareness of children about environmental pollution and influence their behavior at home and in the public. The project aims at making children environmentally-conscious by teaching them separate waste collection and recycling. First, a list of participants will be drafted and 240 students aged 6-14 and 80 children aged 4-5 from 4 schools and 4 kindergartens in Sofia City will be involved. Second, open multimedia lessons on the green future will be held followed by a school photo competition Green Sofia and drawing competition My City. Third, 20 separate waste collection bins will be placed in the schools and kindergartens. Fourth, a seminar on educating children to be environmentally conscious will be held with 30 representatives of the civil society. Finally, a website will be prepared. The project will benefit about 320 children and their families by teaching children to behave in an environmentally friendly way.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the need to raise the awareness of children about environmental pollution and influence their behavior at home and in the public. The general objective of the project - formation of a positive attitude among adolescents towards the problem with the separate collection of waste and its recycling was achieved with maximum efficiency. The adolescent population is the most effective multiplier of the "green idea". Therefore, included were four metropolitan schools, which took part with two classes (class 3 and 4) each, and four metropolitan kindergartens with two groups (group 3 and 4) each, where the open classes were held. For easier understanding of the material and the provided information the lessons in the school were held in the form of a narrative, video, game, quiz and ended with a prize - a hat with a visor. For the children in the kindergartens a company was hired that has a team of entertainers who in the form of a theatrical production brought the necessary information to the children on the meaning and benefits of the separate collection of waste, the types of containers, what should be thrown in them and other useful questions. Here again the lesson ended with a prize - a hat with a visor - for the knowledge acquired. The main method that was used for the achievement of the set objectives was the creation of innovative know-how containing informal educational and recreational activities in order to ensure sustainability and continuous results. The methods used were the following: conducted open classes and a training spectacle, conducted seminar where representatives of the NGO sector and civil society were trained in techniques for applying the newly-made know-how, held competitions for the best photo and best children's drawing, raising the awareness of the target group with regard to separate collection of waste and environmental protection.
