Summary of project results

The project addressed the need for young people in Varna Region to become aware and involved in environment protection and sustainable development. It raised the awareness of young people about the protected areas in Varna Region and involved more than 450 students in data collection for a common database on protected areas. Twenty protected areas were visited and described. The project outputs (films, photos and a brochure with information on the protected areas in the Municipality of Varna) were presented in five schools before nine classes. Ten pupils participated in the essay contests, and in that for logo and motto - three classes. The works of the participants were posted on the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/orenda.varna?fref=ts). The participants in the contest prompted not only their peers but also adults to reflect on how to contribute to the environment in which they live. The project involved many young people. All volunteers who helped the Foundation are youths. Some of the teachers expressed their willingness and support for future projects, as well as assurance to include classes on environmental protection in their programme for the next school year, using materials provided to them under the project.
