Description
The project addresses the lack of experience of young Bulgarians in social and economic issues due to lack of education programmes and methodology focused on human rights, volunteering, anti-discrimination and violence prevention and limited opportunities to be involved in social initiatives. The project aims at building knowledge of European values and human rights by involving students in meaningful voluntary extra-curricular activities. First, cooperation agreements will be signed with 10 schools in Bourgas Region to set up Human Rights clubs there. Students and teachers will be trained to use peer teaching and further train and hold voluntary campaigns. Second, methodology of human rights education will be developed and tested and a guide will be published. The project will benefit about 400 students, the main target group, by raising their awareness, engaging them in community work and reducing their exposure to aggression, violence and anti-social behaviour.
Summary of project results
The project addressed the lack of experience of young Bulgarians in social and economic issues due to lack of education programmes and methodology focused on human rights, volunteering, anti-discrimination and violence prevention and limited opportunities to be involved in social initiatives. It fulfilled its goal by training young people and experts on topics related to human rights, discrimination, xenophobia, hate speech and volunteering. The students from 5 schools in the city of Bourgas and 5 schools from small localities in Bourgas District were introduced interactively to the topics and could in turn introduce the topics to their classmates and peers as well as the Regional Education Inspectorates (REI) of the Ministry of Education and Science (MES). Partnership with the schools and REI of MES greatly contributed to the implementation of the activities and achieving the final project goal, i.e. a methodology developed to be used by young people and professionals to organize future activities and initiatives related to human rights, discrimination, xenophobia, hate speech and volunteering.
