Summary of project results

The need of the project is to raise public awareness of biodiversity as an important natural capital for humanity. The main objective was to increase the public awareness of environmental protection in the territory of Osogovo mountain. by conducting an educational campaign and volunteer activities contributing to the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity. During the implementation 40 trainings were conducted involving volunteers from V Primary School "Hristo Botev" from the club "Ecology and Health". Thirty volunteers were trained to gather information about different flora and fauna species. The information was systematized and filled in the public part of the renewed National Informational System of the Biological Diversity. For supporting the field work in the mountain 30 cameras were purchased. The taken pictures from the trainings were included in an exhibition "Biodiversity in Osogovo" which was a part from the information campaign. Other initiative of the campaign was an art exhibition – “The living world of Osogovo”. The popularization of the project was accomplished through two press conferences- at the beginning and at the end of the project. The benefit from the implementation was aimed for the target group of young students and children - and indirectly to the population of the Municipality of Kyustendil. Six volunteers from minority groups participated in the trainings as a further contribution to the EEA objectives.
