Description

The purpose of the Project is to study the ecological relations in the Red Bog peatland area which determine raised and transitional bogs' biodiversity, with the overall objective of supporting the Environmental protection policy in NATURA 2000 areas. Reference is made to the application, dated 26 June 2006, and additional information provided in correspondence with the Focal Point, dated 28 August 2006. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Documentation of existing state of the system; - Protection strategy formulation; - Ecological relations studies; - GIS database system; - Information to the general public about values of Red Bog; - Training of employees of the National Park in the use of all software created for the Project. The Project Promoter is Warsaw Agricultural University, Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Science. The Project is based on a partnership between the Polish partners Warsaw Agricultural University (Project coordinator), Biebrza National Park (coordinator of field work), Institute of Technology and Life Sciences, Mammal Research Institute, Centre for Ecological Research, and the Norwegian partner Jordforsk (Norwegian Centre for Soil and Environmental Research). The Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education shall provide at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible project cost.
