Description

The purpose of the Project is the renovation and modernisation of the Gallery of 19th century Polish art of the National Museum of Cracow - Sukiennice, with the overall objective of protecting the movable and immovable cultural heritage and increasing the significance of culture and tourism as factors stimulating economic and social development. Reference is made to the application, dated 20 March 2006, and to correspondence with the Focal Point dated 14 June 2006, 23 October 2006, 30 November 2006, and 13 December 2006. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: • preparatory works, including the disassembly of art works and their transport to a temporary location; • the introduction or replacement of systems, including surveillance and security systems, fire alarm and fire-extinguishing system, and computer monitoring system; • modernisation and replacement of lighting fixtures and electrical wiring, as well as heating, water, sewerage, and ventilation systems; • reinforcement of the roof and terraces; • creation of a new temporary exhibition space; • creation of modern presentation facilities: a multimedia/audiovisual room, an internet room, a multipurpose room, and a studio room for researchers; • adjustments to the building for the needs of disabled visitors, including a lift; • modifications to the entrance and new facilities in the new Gallery entrance hall, including culture information desk, a cafe, a modern commercial space (museum store), expanded sanitary facilities, and a cloakroom; • fitting out of the building with furnishings and equipment; and • construction of modern storage rooms for works of art, a painting conservation studio, offices in painting and education department, and facilities and storage premises for employees. The Project Promoter is National Museum in Cracow. The Ministry of Culture shall provide at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible project cost.
