Description

Recent statistical analyses show that over 50 percent of all pollution activities are generated by small vessels (tug, barges, pushers, cargo handling equipment) operated in ports. Objective: to benchmark the company’s activities against European good practice standards and to introduce new technology that will improve the environmental performance of the tugs fleet. After investment is finalized, one old tugboat from Coremar's fleet should comply EPA TIER II IMO&EU standards, which means an emissions reduction up to 60% per engine per hour. Moreover, this tugboat, will be more performant, so it will increase the competitivity of the company. The benefits are also for the company and for the environment.

Summary of project results

Acquisition in the project of a new performant multi-function tug, with big capacity, opened new business possibilities for Coremar, such as antipollution, fire fighting and supply vessel for offshore platforms, which means an extension of business on other collateral markets, and opportunities to reach new clients and partners. A new green technology, environmental friendly multitask tug boat for Coremar fleet, is a statement of the commitment of the company towards its way of greening the fleet. Main project outcomes: - new, green, performant and more secure technology; - new activities for the company: antipollution, fire fighting and supply vessel for offshore platforms, ; - lower consumption at better technical performance; - lower gas emissions; - lower maintenance costs; - knowledge and information about Norwegian maritime experiences in offshore and shipyard industries.

Summary of bilateral results

The Project Promoter has an improved knowledge and understanding about the Alesund Knowledge Park and the Blu Maritime Cluster and its prolific role in initiating and merging projects. The bilateral meetings organized in the project were relevant for sharing good practices and for presenting opportunities for Norwegian companies to collaborate with Romanian private companies and state authorities. The bilateral meetings were also very inspirational for the Project Promoter, due to seeing how a cluster works and how important is the power of a cluster. Norwegian experts were sharing information about new technologies discovered and solutions applied, about their research results in industry and their concerns about fuel consumption, green energy and environment
