About programme area - Bilateral Research Cooperation

The programme aims at enhancing research-based knowledge development in the Beneficiary countries through enhanced research cooperation between Norway and the Beneficiary countries. Norway Grants support programmes in five beneficiary countries to increase research capacity and the application of research results in cooperation with Norwegian entities.

About the programmes

The bilateral collaboration between the research Council and the Programme Operators is developed through the joint events, joint promotional and information activities used during the planning and implementation of the programmes.

The Research Council contributes to the programmes by sharing experience and good practice in programme administration and assists the Programme Operators in the bilateral actions on programme level, as well as wider actions and activities. The Research Council also plays a role in ensuring good communication between Norwegian partners and the Programme Operators and Project Promoters.

Participation in the research cooperation programme is open to researchers based at universities, research institutes and SMEs. Projects will be conducted by consortia composed of at least one partner from the Beneficiary country and one from Norway. Third country partners may also join the project, but are not entitled to funding from the programme.

Czech Republic: The programme fund collaborative research projects in the areas of environment, health, social science and the humanities.

Estonia: The programme fund joint research projects in all areas of research and in the field of basic and/or applied research.

Hungary: The programme fund collaborative research projects in the areas of environment, health, social science and the humanities.

Latvia: The programme will fund research collaborative research projects within the thematic areas of 1) Social science and the humanities and 2) Public health, including aspects connected with pharmaceuticals, biomedicine and prevention.

Romania: The programme aims at enhancing research-based knowledge development in Romania, and to increase research cooperation between the Donor countries and Romania.

The Research Council is donor programme partner together with the Icelandic Centre for Research (Rannis). The collaboration between the Research Council and the Programme Operator is developed through the joint events, joint promotional and information activities used during the planning and implementation of the programme.

The Research Council contributes to the programme by sharing experience and good practice in programme administration and assists the Programme Operator in the bilateral actions on programme level, as well as wider actions and activities. . The Research Council also plays a role in ensuring good communication between Donor partners and the Programme Operator and Project promoters.

About the Research Council of Norway

The Research Council of Norway is responsible for enhancing Norway's knowledge base and are promoting basic and applied research and innovation in order to help research needs within society. The Research Council also works actively to encourage international research cooperation. As a donor programme partner, the Research Council aims to establish and strengthen cooperation with institutions involved in research and innovation in the Beneficiary countries. Being a donor programme partner allows the Research Council to share experiences and ideas on good practice in research with Programme Operator institutions. Another aim is to assist Norwegian research communities in expanding their international networks to include partners in the Beneficiary countries. These bilateral relations are an important steppingstone towards participation in the European Research Area.
