About the programme area - Mainstreaming gender equality and promoting work-life balance

Although significant progress towards equality between men and women has been made in recent decades, gender gaps persist. The EEA and Norway Grants support programmes in six beneficiary countries to promote gender equality. In the long term, the goal is to see reduced income disparities between men and women, more women in decision-making bodies and a better balance between family and professional life.

About the programme

Estonia: The programme aims to mainstream gender equality and promote work-life balance. This will be achieved through:

1) awareness raising and promotion of research on gender issues
2) improving opportunities for reconciling work, private and family life
3) strengthening the capacity of non-governmental organisations and networks.

Two pre-defined projects have been included in this programme; Statistics Norway and the Norwegian Equality and Anti-discrimination Ombud have been approached to become project partners.

Throughout the planning and implementation of the programme, the Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs provides strategic and technical advice to the national programme operator, the Estonian Ministry of Social Affairs. The Directorate participates in the Coordination Committee for the programme and actively facilitates project partnerships between Estonian and Norwegian entities.

the Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs can assist Norwegian entities who wish to get involved as partners. Project partners from the donor countries may include local and regional public bodies or civic organisations operating in the gender equality field.
