Project summary

 

The purpose of the Project is the restoration of the Garden of the Countess of Edla and ornamental farm located in the western part of the Park of Pena, with the overall objective of contributing to the protection of the World Heritage site of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra. Reference is made to the application dated 18 June 2007, and to any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - restoration of the Garden of Countess of Edla, including the Valley of Ferns; - restoration of the ornamental farm located in the western part of the Park of Pena; - project management and publicity activities. The Project Promoter is Parques de Sintra - Monte de Lua, S.A. (PSML). Subject to national law, the Project shall be implemented in partnership with The Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIKU), Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos da Universidade do Porto (CIBIO, Research Centre for Biodiversity and Genetic Resources, University of Porto) and European Foundation for Landscape Architects (EFLA). The Focal Point shall ensure that the Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e da Biodiversidade provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project cost.
