Description

The current situation doesn’t allow acquainting with the present-day situation on the route to the destination point of the target groups to avoid the impending danger. Subsequently, a winter maintenance dispatcher is forced to send winter service vehicles more often than necessary, thereby unreasonably pollute the environment. The objective of project is reduce existing barriers in cross-border cooperation. The project aims at ensuring the free flow of information about climatic conditions which will be distributed to all road users to secure the safe thoroughfare of the border between Slovakia and the Ukraine. The next aim of the project is to reduce the frequency of rides of winter service vehicles only if it is necessary and thereby improve the environment in the border area. The basic current meteorological data together with its visualization of the current road conditions will be sent to the server where they will be used by winter dispatching same as by all road users to make the management of winter maintenance more flexible and effective. This data will be available on the website and mobile app which will be downloadable for free. Target groups are the inhabitants, entrepreneurs and people working in the mentioned area on the both sides of the border as well as potential tourists or visitors of the cross-border areas. The partners of the project will provide information about the situation in traffic and road users; and will also raise the awareness about the existence and importance of the project and the importance of participation in it.

Summary of project results

The project was necessary in order to upgrade the quality of transportation services in the border area. As many as 25 weather stations with a camera were constructed allowing the SUC PSK personnel to manage road preservation with better data quality especially in the winter time. A web page monitoring the situation on the roads was put into place (http://www.zjazdnostpsk.sk/) as well as smart phone application which is available to the public in Slovakia and Ukraine and allows the public to gather information on the condition of roads especially in winter. In order to reach the outcomes, quality project management was inevitable, relentless project team meetings, thorough communication with project partners, public procurement procedures for all team activities and activity implementation. The project allowed for the conditions on roads in the Slovak-Ukraine border region to improve, dissemination of information was carried out with the municipalities, consulate , significant transportation companies, initiatives leading to policy changes on border crossings and a modernised territory within the programme was identified.
