Description

Enhancing of university teachers´ scholarship of teaching and learning is an important tool of improving the quality of education. Researching of teaching process in different types of schools and the creation of instruments to raise its quality is an integral part of several researches conducted at the Faculty of Education of Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. Less attention has been paid to researching the educational process at university, in particularly to searching for the possibilities of improving the quality of university teachers in scholarship of teaching and learning. Donor partner, University of Bergen belongs to those universities that take this task seriously and systematically and enhancing scholarship of teaching and learning is one of the strategic objectives. The main objectives of the project are intensifying of research and development of tools for improving the quality of university teachers´ scholarship of teaching and learning in both partner organizations and the creation of appropriate conditions for their long-term cooperation in this area. The main project activities include seminars and workshops for academics and students of partner organizations, joint research in field set and publishing of research findings, reflections, instruments developed and interviews with academics in the form of 2 printed books and leaflets. Donor partner, University of Bergen is an equal partner involved in all project activities. The partnership will enhance the quality of university teachers in their scholarship of teaching and learning and will lead to an increasing of the quality of education and improving the quality of study programs.

Summary of project results

The main objectives of the project are intensifying of research and development of tools for improving the quality of university teachers´ scholarship of teaching and learning in both partner organizations and the creation of appropriate conditions for their long-term cooperation in this area. During the project were organised 2 information seminars and 6 workshops in Bratislava and Bergen, with 99 participants. There were 5 joint working meetings of 33 academic staff. The results of the joint research have been shared in 3 book publications (Tools for the Development of Teaching at University, A Guide to Better Teaching at University, Pedagogická príprava a prax úspešných vysokoškolských učiteľov). Overall, 11 Slovak and 5 foreign academics, as well as 3 Slovak and 4 Norwegian students, visited the partner organization and participated in organized seminars and workshops.

Summary of bilateral results

Donor project partner was an equal partner involved in all project activities. Project partner institution has provided an office and teaching space as well as administrative and technical support for realisation of project activities.The benefits of the partner institutions were the intensifying of research of scholarship of teaching and learning in both partner organizations, the development of tools for enhancing the quality of university teachers in scholarship of teaching and learning, the promoting of university teachers awareness of the potential and developed tools for teaching skills improvement and enhancing quality of teaching, the creation (in the case of project promoter) and the spreading (in the case of project partner) of community of university teachers who wish to explore further scholarship of teaching and learning and setting of conditions for long-term cooperation between participated institutions.A community of university teachers wishing to develop in the area of exploration and management of teaching and learning processes was created in Slovakia. Numerous and intensive short-term mobilities allowed the establishment of a solid partnerships of partner institutions and individuals participated in project, which continue their common work also after the project end.
