Summary of project results

University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice and Nord University v Bodø have been cooperating since the year 2010 and since the academic year 2010/2011 is taught joint bachelor study programme in “Animal Science” Both universities see the need to increase the level of education and practical instruction in aquaculture and related areas that will promote a growing aquaculture industry by providing highly qualified experts. The reason for this project was therefore to continue and expand the existing and highly successful cooperation between the two universities, to increase mobility between the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice and Nord University in Bodø and provide the opportunities for future research collaborations. The tool for achieving this objective was reciprocal long-term mobility of PhD students and teaching assignments of academic staff. The long-term mobilities of 5 PhD students have helped to gain new insights into their studies, new skills and knowledge, learn about the hosting country, its culture, customs, mentality, standard of living, and make new contacts. The PhD students saw their stay abroad, inter alia, as an effective training in communication skills. Teacher mobility of 7 academics, which involved lecturing, giving seminars, or consultations in the hosting university, benefited the students, PhD students, academics, and even professional public, have broadened their communication skills and professional relationships with their colleagues in the hosting institution, and established contacts and cooperation with experts in the hosting country. Exchange of knowledge, experience and long-standing partnership of the two institutions are reflected in their evaluation, which increases their rating and attractiveness as a result. A secondary effect is promotion of both countries among students, academics, and professional public. The long-running successful cooperation offers a prospect for creation of other joint study programmes, courses or summer schools and the related mobility.
