Description

It is important to remove the unfortunate association of cryptography research with military objectives. Instead, the project wants to promote open cooperation in cryptography research under the project motto „Cryptography brings security and freedom”, stressing a wide spectrum of cryptography applications including e-commerce, privacy protection, e-government, and others. The project aims to extend the scientific and educational cooperation. A joint intensive course for students from both countries shall be organised encouraging them in the cryptology research career. Training of young researchers involved in the project will include travel to both countries to gain theoretical and practical experience with researchers from host countries. Donor partner, the Selmer Center at the University of Bergen is an equal project partner participating in the organisation of the intensive course as well as in joint research activities. The partnership will thanks to the research cooperation during the project lead to further involvement with possible future international research projects.

Summary of project results

Main objective of the project was to promote cryptography research and education in a bilateral cooperation between project participants. Cryptography is an important building block for solving important problems in information security. It is of demanding importance to train young researchers in cryptography. The project focused on exchanging students and staff between the research groups from both universities. 8 Slovak students and 7 PhD students attended one week long seminar and workshop in Bergen and 7 Norwegian PhD students participated in one week long seminar organised in Bratislava. The participating students were well satisfied with the course. One of the main outputs was the proceeding from joint conference in cryptography held in Bergen February 8 - 10, 2016. This conference had more than 20 talks and included invited speakers form other research groups in Norway. Academic staff involved in the project prepared 2 joint publications and published in 2 scientific papers. Both research group have exchanged information on problems and discussed future challenges in cryptology. The partners stayed in contact even after the project competition. Norwegian partner have very recently received funding in cryptography including several research project form the Norwegian Research Council and certainly plan to invite Slovak colleagues to future research visits in Bergen in the coming years. Good connection between the research groups that lasts still after the end of the project include collaboration in scientific papers that will be submitted to international conferences and journals. The two research groups have created a good network between the students and staff. They participate in activities such as organisation of conferences CECC 2016 in Slovakia and Arctic Crypt 2016 in Norway.
