Description

The active international cooperation is very crucial for maintaining relations between participating schools through the duration of the project and also afterwards. The main goal of the project is to create and maintain an institutional cooperation between participating upper secondary schools through sharing of proved teaching methods. The project focuses not only on languages, but also on other subjects that is required and beneficial for both institutions. Students will create and organize knowledge contests and they will cooperate on mutual assignments and tasks. They could improve their knowledge in scientific and social subjects as well as realize their usage in everyday situations. Teachers will create and share new teaching aids and methods, and improve their professional skills. Donor partner, St. Hallvard upper secondary school, is equal project partner contributing to balanced partnership thanks to reciprocity of activities. The partnership will improve not only teaching processes, but also after-school activities and create new teaching aids in order to improve the quality of education in both schools.

Summary of project results

The project had different aims that involved both students and teachers. For the students there were two major goals, extend the knowledge of natural sciences in English and broaden the knowledge and understanding of the history, culture and social life in Slovakia and Norway, as well as sharing know-how regarding the organization of after school activities. 30 Slovak and 30 Norwegian students and 1 teachers from both countries had an opportunity to get to know each other, new school system, compare advantages and disadvantages of different ways of teaching, evaluation and technical equipment of the schools. Teachers prepared 11 new teaching aids for subjects such as English language, sociocultural subjects and natural sciences. In electronic form, all teaching aids are available on the project's web site, where they are also accessible to the wider public. The variety of themes targeted by the project has made it possible to address and involve in the project students with different interests. At the same time, students and teachers were given the opportunity to engage in activities they would not otherwise be engaged in at all. Work on assignments from natural subjects alternated with political, historical, or cultural workshops. Each student had the opportunity to represent his country on the topic closest to him. For many, it was a great challenge to present their knowledge in English, especially if professional terminology was a necessity. A great motivation was the friendly atmosphere and the interest of the participants in the topics. Unforgettable experiences will certainly be the moments spent exploring the partner country, its culture and traditions. Schools organised 5 knowledge contests for students from both partner schools. 4 contests took place during students mobility, last knowledge contest was in the form of distance cooperation (assignment was drawn up by Slovak-Norwegian couples, the evaluation was common). The aim of the knowledge competitions was to verify the knowledge acquired by the students during the educational activities of the project. The project also had a major impact on interpersonal relationships. As Slovakia and Norway are on the same continent, know little about each other. This is project was great opportunity to make new friends and relations, which happened both between students and between teachers. That is why both involved schools are willing to continue in the very good established partnership and cooperation.

Summary of bilateral results

Donor project partner St. Hallvard upper-secondary school was equal partner involved in all project activities. Slovak school used bilateral funds and visited St. Hallvard upper-secondary school in August 2014, in order to introduce the partner institutions, discuss and agree on the project activities and other details of the project, including budget. The visit lasted 3 days. Both partner schools have cooperated very well during the project. While Grammar school Grösslingová in Bratislava is mainly focused on mathematics, the focus of St. Hallvard upper-secondary school in Lier is more wider. It was interesting to compare and experience for Slovak and Norwegian students and teachers, since they both had the opportunity to learn something new from these fields, especially during the mobilities. Teachers jointly prepared 11 new teaching aids for subjects such as English language, sociocultural subjects and natural sciences. Teachers as well as students had an opportunity to get to know the new school system, evaluation and technical equipment of the schools and compare advantages and disadvantages of different ways of teaching. The project also had a major impact on interpersonal relationships. Students and teachers got to know a country which they by their own admission knew almost nothing about before the mobility, and they got a lot of experience at cooperating across language barriers, and with students and teachers from a different school system and a slightly different culture.
