Description

The project is addressing the urgent need for assistance and support for domestic violence victims by the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Braila. Currently, insufficient material and financial resources to ensure qualitative services, lack of a shelter adapted to intervene in emergency crisis situations, low number of information campaigns at local level, and poor inter-agency cooperation is hindering the Directorate from providing the required services. The project will establish two centres offering shelter accommodation for victims of domestic violence, by renovating and equipping two apartments owned by DGASPC Braila. Moreover, the project will carry out an information campaign to prevent domestic violence by developing specialized intervention tools, strengthening prevention and intervention actions in cases of domestic violence at county level and strengthening inter-institutional cooperation in order to alert and investigate cases of domestic violence. The target group of the project consists of children and their families’ victims of domestic violence in Braila County.

Summary of project results

The project arose from the need to address the phenomenon of domestic violence at the level of the county of Braila, which is present in the most diverse socio-cultural patterns. Thus, it was noticed that, on annual basis, at least 200 children in the county of Brăila were subject of domestic violence. In this context, the project promoted by General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Braila aimed to diversify the already existing services offered to victims of domestic violence in the county, by tackling the following line of actions: • Setting up two centres for sheltering victims of domestic violence, by renovating and endowing two apartments owned by the Project Promoter, thus providing hosting and specialized services to the victims in special, dedicated locations; • Conducting a local information campaign meant to prevent domestic violence; At the level of the two centers that were set up, specialized personnel was recruited, specific instruments for working with the victims of domestic violence were elaborated and the following specialized services were provided: hosting, social, psychological and legal assistance. During the project implementation, 45 victims of domestic violence (13 women and 32 children) were hosted and benefited of specialized services. Other 45 cases of domestic violence were investigated and social, psychological and legal assistance was provided as well. Furthermore, 15 victims of domestic violence were monitored after receiving of the specialized services. Moreover, an information campaign aiming at preventing domestic violence phenomenon was carried out in Brăila county, in close cooperation with the project partner County Police Inspectorate from Brăila. The campaign was implemented through the following activities: - organizing of 5 meetings with citizens in the rural areas of Brăila county, including presentations and information materials, - organizing of several meetings in 3 schools from the city of Brăila. A total of 450 school pupils and 166 parents attended the meetings. - 2 marches aiming at raising awareness on domestic violence. Also, in order to transfer useful information to the relevant social partners in the field of combating domestic violence, two workshops were organized for representatives of public institutions and NGOs acting in the field of combating domestic violence. A total of 35 persons attended the workshops.
